Right after my first session with you, my husband and I went to his company’s annual picnic. They use the same caterer ever year and every year I “pig out” on the food. The research shows it: hypnosis can help you meet your weight loss goals!

Effectiveness of hypnosis as an adjunct to behavioral weight management

In this study, 109 people participated in a 9-week study. One half of the group participated in a typical diet-and-exercise program. The second half of the group got the same diet and exercise treatment and also received hypnosis for reinforcement.

After 9 weeks, participants in both halves lost weight.  In 8-month and 2-year follow-ups, the group that had only the diet-and-exercise program lost no weight after then end of the initial study, and most of those participants had gained back most of the weight they had lost.

The hypnosis group, however, continued to lose weight after the end of the initial study, and far more people in the this group met their long term weight loss goals.

Hypnotic enhancement of cognitive-behavioral weight loss treatments—Another meta-reanalysis

This study-of-studies show that hypnosis is effective in both the short- and long-term for weight loss. Participants in these studies lost twice as much weight — and kept it off — than people who tried to lose weight without any sort of hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy in weight loss treatment

This study involved 60 females who were at least 20% overweight and not receiving any other treatment. The researchers interviewed each participant about their family background, educational background, and their belief as to their ability to be hypnotized.

The group was divided into hypnosis and non-hypnosis groups with both groups being given weight loss behavioral treatments and counseling. The group using hypnosis lost an average of 17 pounds at the 6 month follow up. The group that did not receive hypnosis only lost a half of a pound. The results also showed that social and educational backgrounds or a prior belief in hypnosis had no impact on the results.
